It's been a while since I've read some of the earlier Discworld books. I used to read the new ones the same day they were released, and reread several of the older ones quite frequently. With news of Pratchett's advancing illness, it's difficult to read these books without feeling a little sad.
However, the Discworld series remains my favorite book series and in an effort to force myself to set aside time to read, it seems like a logical choice to read something that I know I will enjoy. I figured that I should start at the beginning, because it's been at least a decade since I've read the first books. They seem completely different from his other work - not unpolished, but a little more disjointed than his other ones.
Anyway, rather than devouring the book in one sitting, I'm taking my time with it. Perhaps in small doses, it will be easier to read through, and Pratchett's advancing illness will have less time to sit in my mind.
